Tom Kessler, Principal
Field Engineer
Tom is a 20+ year veteran of the data collection industry, with over 16 years in cost segregation. He has worked both as an internal employee and an outside contractor for groups such as BDO Seidman, Moss Adams, KBKG, Madison Specs, Segregation Holding, and Depreciation Consulting, LLC.
Applied Work Experience: Outside Cost Segregation Consultant; Senior Manager Cost Segregation Services; Manager; Cost Segregation Engineer; General Contractor; Cabinet Maker & Commercial Store Fixture Builder.
In 2010, Tom founded Kessler Consulting Services, LLC, to provide outsourced field engineering services for the cost segregation industry. Since then, the company has grown to provide a full range of cost segregation services for clients throughout the United States. Tom began his career in the construction industry, owning and operating a general contracting firm that specialized in the remodeling of commercial and residential buildings. Tom is also a furniture artisan, having owned and managed companies that designed, built, and installed fine custom furniture, and custom commercial application cabinetry and fixtures. Tom studied Building Construction at Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, and Musical Composition at the University of Cincinnati.
Kimberly Stevens-Heron
Field Engineer and Director of Operations
Kim brings several years of cost segregation experience to our team, as well as utilizing her background in finance, accounting, event management, and human resources to act as both a cost segregation engineer and our Operations Manager.
Applied Work Experience: Cost Segregation Engineer, Project Manager, Data Collection Specialist, Associate Wealth Management Advisor, Account Manager, Director of Human Resources, and Financial Officer.
With over 25 years of various management positions and nearly four years in cost segregation, Kim brings a multifaceted skillset that allows her to cover multiple roles. She has developed an eye for details and processes from her experiences working in financial advising for ultra-high-net-worth clients; bookkeeping for small businesses with sole proprietors; and event operations and execution for a technology company assisting with large-scale event planning. She has also served as the Director of Human Services for a mid-sized company and co-owns a gourmet sauce company. Kim has held Series 66, 7, SIE, Insurance licenses and a PHR certification, has an MS-Ed in College Administration from the University of Wisconsin - LaCrosse, and BS in Finance/Economics Accounting from the University of Wisconsin - Platteville.
Patrick Heron
Field Engineer
Pat is approaching ten years of experience in the cost segregation industry. During that time, he has performed all aspects of cost segregation services as both an inside employee and outside contractor for Kessler Consulting Services, LLC.
Applied Work Experience: Outside Cost Segregation Consultant; Cost Segregation Staff Engineer; Data Collection Specialist; General Contractor; Architectural Project Manager; Chief Operating Officer.
Pat has over 35 years of experience in the commercial, hospitality, and residential construction industries. The majority of that time, he owned and operated a general contracting firm in Northern Michigan that designed and built custom homes and commercial buildings. In 2007, Pat relocated to Steamboat Springs, Colorado, where he managed the construction and remodels of multimillion-dollar luxury residential properties. Throughout his career he has designed and built office buildings, healthcare facilities, multifamily apartment buildings and restaurants. Pat has also managed property developments by international companies such as Toll Brothers. Pat studied Architecture at Lawrence Institute of Technology in Southfield, Michigan, and Building Construction Technology at Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.
Carl Kessler
Field Engineer – East Coast
Carl serves as a Data Collection Specialist performing site data collection and data compilation for KCS clients primarily in the south and on the east coast. Carl brings deep expertise and knowledge in industrial manufacturing and die casting, as well as over five years of cost segregation experience, and more than a decade of experience in construction practices specializing in historic property preservation and rehabilitation.
Applied Work Experience: Cost Segregation Staff Engineer; Data Collection Specialist; General Contractor; Vice President of Manufacturing and Research Development.
Carl began his career in heavy manufacturing management, working for several years as Vice President of Manufacturing and Research Development for high-tech defense and fiber optic companies. Carl then founded and operated a construction and restoration company that completed many state-certified historic restorations. At the time, he was the only licensed contractor to receive a certification in Historic Preservation Technologies from the state of North Carolina. He is an award-winning construction restoration specialist. Carl has served as an instructor for the North Carolina Historic Preservation Technologies program and lectures several times a year for the North Carolina Historic Preservation Office.
Michael Riberich
Cost Segregation Engineer
Mike joined the KCS team approximately three years ago and brings a wealth of applicable experiences to the team. He has performed studies with our team on properties of all sizes and applications. He brings extensive design knowledge from his work as an engineer developing highly specialized aircraft maintenance systems, retractable roof sports stadiums, and building mechanical systems.
Applied Work Experience: Cost Segregation Engineering, Mechanical Contractor, General Management and System Design; Professional Engineer, Design, Manufacture and Installation of large, mechanized structures.
Mike has over 25 years of design and installation experience with building mechanical and structural systems. He began his career as an engineer detailing steel structures and progressed to lead designer and engineer for patented airliner maintenance structures. Mike then transitioned to a management role for a mechanical contractor. He was responsible for projects that consisted of residential, commercial and industrial HVAC. Throughout his career, Mike has worked with companies that offered design and installation of projects giving him a unique perspective of the construction industry. Mike has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Wisconsin - Platteville and was a licensed Professional Engineer in Minnesota.
Patrick Brennan
Cost Segregation Engineer-Midwest
Pat has been with the Kessler Consulting Services team for 2 years. He brings 23 years of experience as an IBEW Local 58 member with extensive knowledge in limited voltage data systems and sound reproduction and installation. From 2000 to 2022, Pat was the house audio engineer at Comerica Park in Detroit and at The Palace of Auburn Hills. His responsibilities included: Maintaining the front of house and back of house sound systems as well as maintaining the sound/data systems in the restaurants and other stadium facilities. Pat owns and operates Vessel Recording Studios, a full-service music production facility located in Dearborn, Michigan and studied music/fine arts at both Henry Ford College and Wayne State University. Pat is also on the Advisory Board for the Recording Engineering Department at Henry Ford College.
Jake Winkler
Process Development
Jake’s life has been continually surrounded by the construction industry. Growing up he worked summers for his family’s concrete company doing everything from shop maintenance to hauling heavy equipment. In 2019 Jake graduated with honors from Montana State University with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. He spent several years working in excavation and heavy civil construction as well as volunteer firefighting before coming to KCS. Jake currently serves as our process development expert and occasionally performs Field Engineering work.
Garret Schneider
Field Engineer
Garret is the newest member of the Kessler Consulting Services team and can travel anywhere. He was born and raised in Laurel, Montana and garnered acutely relevant skills for conducting Cost Segregation takeoff work while in the Construction Engineering Technology program at Montana State University from which he graduated in 2020. Along the way Garret has worked in concrete, roofing, plumbing, and various agricultural construction fields. He also serves part time in the Idaho Air National Guard as a Non-Destructive Inspection Technician working on various airframes.
Todd Elenz
Counsel
Todd has been the legal consultant for Kessler Consulting Services, LLC for more than five years and is available to assist clientele with property tax and asset valuation disputes. Todd, a business and real estate attorney located in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, is an experienced litigator and transactional attorney.
Applied Work Experience: Commercial Leases; Contract Negotiation and Drafting; Construction Defect Litigation and Payment Issues; Easements, Liens and Title Issues; Homeowners Associations; Debt Resolution; Insurance Defense.
Todd started his legal career working for the Oregon Tax Court researching and drafting court opinions regarding income and property tax disputes and property valuation disputes. He also spent time working for a debt resolution law firm in Kansas City, Missouri prior to practicing in Colorado. Todd is an adjunct professor at Colorado Mountain College, teaching Legal Environment of Business. Before entering the legal field, Todd raced bicycles internationally, doing stints at the United States Olympic Training Center with the United States National Team and three years racing for a Belgian team.
